Tell us about your proposal?
We were on holidays in Hawaii and went on the Friday night dinner cruise so we could see the fireworks from the water. At dinner all of the ladies were given flowers to wear in our hair- a hawaiian tradition. After dinner Lachy took me up to the top deck to find a good spot to watch the fireworks. It was windy and my hair was blowing everywhere so I asked Lachy to hold my flower while I fixed my hair. When I looked back to Lachy he was holding my flower with the ring on it. At first I was speechless I just looked at the ring and at Lachy trying to work out if what I was seeing was real! Then he asked me to marry him and I said yes! I was so overwhelmed with joy as he put the ring on my finger that I just started giggling and Lachy gave me a big hug and kiss. It was a very special moment shared between just the two of us 🙂
Did you pick out your rings together, or was it a surprise?
Lachy was very sneaky and asked my best friend Brooke what kind of ring I liked so that he could surprise me with my engagement ring. We picked our wedding bands together after we were engaged.
How long were you engaged / how much time did you allow for wedding planning?
Just under 16months, it was a good amount of time so that we could enjoy the planning and not feel rushed.
What was your wedding theme? How/ why did you choose the theme?
Lachy and I both love the sea so we knew we wanted a seaside wedding right away. We chose Lure because it offered us beautiful views of the sea and the boats in the marina in such an elegant setting. The theme was easy once we chose the venue, being at the marina, Lure lends itself beautifully to the nautical theme.
How did you go about planning your wedding, did you use a coordinator or do everything yourself, or a little bit of both?
We planned everything ourselves. It was made easy for us by my amazing bridesmaids, our family and the wonderful vendors in the Mackay and Whitsundays region.
How did you decide on wedding venue/ wedding location (if destination wedding)?
We chose to tie the knot in Airlie beach so our guests who were coming from all over, could make a holiday/weekend of it. Many of our guests spent extra time in Airlie beach or on the islands in the lead up to and after our big day.
What’s the one thing you recommend couples invest in for their big day?
The Photography for sure! Getting an experienced and professional wedding photographer to capture those fleeting moments filled with emotion is priceless. I cannot speak highly enough of our photographer Nadine Kemp. She made us feel so comfortable and and relaxed so we could enjoy every second of our day. She captured our personalities, the essence of us as a couple and all of the love surrounding us on the day so perfectly.
How did you choose your wedding dress? Was it ‘love at first sight’?
Yes it was certainly love at first sight for me! I went on a dress shopping trip with my maid of honour to brisbane because my mum and 2 of my bridesmaids live down there and I wanted to make it a bit of a girls trip. The first store I went to down there was White Lily Couture. The staff were amazing there and made me feel like an absolute princess when browsing and trying on dresses. As soon as I tried on the dress Morilee Honey by Madeline Gardener I knew it was the one! It was the dress I had dreamed of and so comfortable as well which was a bonus! I still went to all of the other stores and tried on many other dresses because we had organised all of the appointments but my heart was set on Honey So I went back that afternoon and ordered It! 🙂
Most memorable moment?
We organised a sunset sail for Lachy and I and our bridal party on the Providence V which was absolutely awesome. We were able to relax and enjoy the sunset with our besties and a glass of champagne and nibbles.
Any funny stories or mishaps?
Lachy’s told his dad to come to his hotel room so that we could get some professional photos of them together before the ceremony and he must not have told him the reason he had to come over because he rocked up to Lachy’s room in his usual footy shirt and shorts haha! He had to quickly go back and change into his suit and come back.
What made your day so special to you?
Our wonderful families and friends! We are so blessed to be a part of such loving and supportive families. We were surrounded by so much love on our special day, love was truly in the air!
Do you have any unique wedding tips to help the day run smoothly?
Think about the food and put it on the schedule! The day goes so quickly that if we didn’t have ‘eat something!’ on our schedule we could have easily forgotten to eat!
If a destination wedding, what are your main recommendations?
Make vision boards to share with your vendors to get all on the same page. I made some using PowerPoint and some images from the internet. Also I made Pinterest boards and set them to secret so that everyone couldn’t see what I was planning but I could share them directly with my vendors.
Do you have any tips for guest logistics!?
In the age of technology it’s a good idea to use it. Multimedia is the way to go for giving out information to guests. We had essential info about location and times on our hard copy invitations but also had a website and an app for rsvps and for more information (set up for free on with joy.com). We also used facebook messenger to give out last minute information.
Did you honeymoon, where and for how long!?
We went on our honeymoon right after our wedding. We went sailing in Croatia for 8 days, had a few quiet days in Santorini Greece and then 2 weeks in Italy.
Why did you pick honeymoon location?
We love food and being by the sea so a European summer including lots of sailing, swimming, and amazing food was a perfect choice we thought.
